Hello pals!
Just got to Missouri today. Performed at a college in Rolla, MO this evening. Great college crowd, definitely silly which made me feel happy that they understood my goofiness. The plane ride I slept the whole time but it hurt since I was seated in the middle seat and I got one of those seats that was stuck and wouldn’t recline. I got jealous of the comfy guy to the right of me that had a reclined seat and the window to sleep on and look out of. Got to St. Louis then drove my rental car 1 and a half hours to hotel. I then took a nap from 3:30 pm to 7 pm! OVER SLEPT! I was supposed to wake up at 5:50 pm and get to the college at 6 pm for check in time. The school called the hotel asking where I was!
Sometimes I truly enjoy performing right away because I have no time to look at notes or think of nerves… I just wake up and hop on stage and bring the fire. Haha it was fun! So now I am back at the hotel and going to work on my writing and extend my stand up jokes. Have a long week of shows but going to do my best to take advantage of each hour performance each day to try out new material as well as tighten up the old jokes!
Looking forward to all my shows this week including the show I am in at the Moontower Festival in Austin, TX this Saturday! It seems like a great line up! It includes Eric Andre, Walsh Bros., Josh Fadem, James Adomien and more!
I brought along two books with me for this week. One of which is a comic book named “Tales of a Young Urban Failure” by Erik Moe and the other is “Girls Like Us” by Sheila Weller. I started reading “Tales of a Young Urban Failure” and it was making me laugh out loud at the airport. So future note to self… get more comic books for my travels! The other book “Girls Like Us” follows Carole King, Joni Mitchell, and Carly Simon’s journeys. Seems cool and important for me to read about other artists in other fields. (And since I have an interest in putting out a music album someday). I do wish I could bring my guitar or ukulele on my travels that way I can work on writing songs and releasing endorphins. Always feels good! I didn’t have guitar lessons this week but will need to once I get back in town. Something about going to guitar lessons and having a teacher instantly makes me feel humble and patient.
I am not sure I told you that I went birdwatching last Sunday… well let me tell you… it was the best! It was funny how these birders really know their birds. There was one old man that had this plaque pin on him and was showing off on how many birds he knew. Also, my friend Chelsea who went with me, didn’t have binoculars and I let her borrow them. Then he said to her, “That’s when you know you’re not a professional birdwatcher.” We both just started laughing at how serious he was.

Love, Melissa
P.S. I just want to be an adventurer all the time! Life is one big one adventure! Take the falls and trips and then climb and get up to see the pretty view at the top of the mountain! <3
